Summer Training and 2020 Season Update

5 Jul 2020 by Robert DuPrau

Hello all, I know there are a lot of rumors going around about school, sports, etc for the fall. I will share what I know.

1. There are a lot of options being discussed for both school and sports. Too many to list here. I will share a document that was shared with me about some potential solutions for 2020-2021 school year and sports year. I will put this on our team google classroom for you to read if you are interested.

2. Summer Training: As I’ve told many of you, I have created and submitted a proposal for training this summer. It includes all of the required safety guidelines needed to train safely during the pandemic. Now we have to wait for the state to open school sports. After the state opens school sports, our district will review my proposal and give us the go ahead to begin training. Our preseason soccer camp at Basil Marella will also be determined by the state and then the school. I will plan for it, but let you know closer to those dates if it will actually happen. The tentative dates will be 8/17-8/20 with times TBD (some time in the evening).

3. Individual Training: You absolutely should be training on your own. Both conditioning training and skill training. Check our google classroom for our 6 week summer training program I have created. It will be posted this week to start next week.

4. I will let you know things as soon as I get information. I have told our AD to contact me the second they find out any information.

5. No HS coaches should be running training sessions right now. Believe me…we want to, but have been told it is strictly forbidden. If you get together on your own, please be safe and follow recommended precautions to avoid the spread of illness. Simple things like not share water bottles, washing your hands before and after training (or shower), social distance when possible. I can’t prevent you guys from getting together, but I care deeply about the safety of you and your families. Sometimes it feels like things are getting normal…but the reality is that we are not there yet. We will however get there quicker if everyone does their best to follow safety guidelines. Remember, you are most often protecting those around you by being safe…it is an UNSELFISH act to wear a mask or practice extra healthy measures.

6. I miss you all and hope to see you soon. One rumor that is TRUE is that I am back teaching at Olympia!!!! I’m so excited to see everyone on a daily basis and be able to take part in your academic lives as well as your soccer lives. I’ve been trying to get back to Olympia for 10 years…and it finally happened. :)

So…be well, be safe. Train hard and train safe.
